FAQ

Door lock integration questions

What does door lock integration do?
It lets lock and door events tell the room what is happening. Entry wakes the room, departure starts setback, and checkout puts it into deep setback, so comfort and lighting follow the guest.
Why not rely on occupancy sensors alone?
Motion sensors can miss a still or sleeping guest or wait out long timeouts. Door events confirm when someone actually enters or leaves, so setback happens faster and never interrupts a guest. That makes savings more reliable within the 20–35% range. Results vary.
Will it work with our existing door locks?
Often, yes. We review your lock system, its interface options and your PMS during the free assessment and confirm what can be connected.
Can it tell guests from staff?
Where the lock system provides it, yes. Housekeeping and maintenance entries can be handled differently from guest stays, so the room doesn’t fully wake for a quick service visit.
Is it secure?
We integrate room status events, not access control. Your lock system keeps managing who can open which door, and we coordinate the scope with your lock provider and IT team.
Do we need full GRMS to integrate door locks?
No. Door lock events can feed smart thermostats & energy controls directly, or be part of a full GRMS with lighting and PMS.
What about balcony and connecting doors?
We can add door and window contacts so conditioning pauses when a balcony door is left open.
Is door lock integration a brand requirement?
For some brands and room types it is part of a connected-room standard. We review your brand’s current requirements.
Will it disrupt operations during install?
We stage the work floor by floor around your occupancy and test each door before rooms go back in service.
